About MAF 2027

Conference Legacy

35+ Years of Excellence in Fluorescence

The Methods and Applications in Fluorescence (MAF) conference series was founded in 1989 by Prof. Otto S. Wolfbeis (University of Regensburg), who chaired the series until 2010; Prof. Yves Mély (University of Strasbourg) has chaired it since then.

For more than 35 years, the MAF conference has been a vibrant scientific meeting where researchers, students, faculty, and industry personnel from around the world come together to share scientific advances primarily in fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy.

It started as a biennial meeting rotating mainly around Europe, and only in the 2020s (since MAF18) did the conference shift to an annual cadence alternating between Europe and North America. The early editions (1st–11th, 1989–2009) were held every two years in European cities.

Conference Organizer

The Fluorescence Society

It is our pleasure to invite you to the 21st edition of MAF in 2027, which will be held in Goa, India (Sept 27–30), organized by the Fluorescence Society — the first edition to be held in Asia!

The Fluorescence Society is an association of scientists in the area of optical spectroscopy applied to problems in biology and materials science. It was set up to facilitate the exchange of scientific and technical know-how between labs.

The society organizes the annual FCS workshops (National Workshop on Fluorescence and Raman Spectroscopy) and other meetings. The FCS series of workshops was conceived in 2009 as a unique way to teach the most complex modern instrumentation in Fluorescence and Raman Spectroscopy to practising scientists and Ph.D. students, primarily in India.
